So, I come to you all, seeking any advice on settings I should check, areas I should poke around in, that kind of thing. Pretty sure this issue is with my PC/something at my house. Nothing really helpful at all, since we know the VPNs are built and they work.
Like how to make rules to allow for VPN connections, or how to extend the amount of time allowed before it times out, etc. Some Googling later, and all I've been able to come up with has been stuff from the SonicWall admin side of things. Worked like a charm, established connection, told me it was insecure, then asked for U/N and pword, and I was in. So, I deleted one of the less-used (but still working) VPNs from my laptop, and re-created it.
I thought maybe it was related to how the credentials are entered in the SonicWall VPN connections, and maybe something with my network was not allowing my PC to get to the stage where I can first put in the creds to log in (with a new VPN, it verifies connection, tells me that it's insecure (self-signed certificate from our PBX, this is normal), then prompts for U/N and pword). Still times out while trying to establish connection. That, and I disabled the firewall and tried, with no change.
I checked in the inbound and outbound rules for Windows Firewall, and SonicWall has rules in place to allow traffic. I don't think it's a Windows Firewall/Defender issue. Which leads me to believe that the issue is at least related to SonicWall Mobile Connect. Those use the inbuilt Windows VPN client, not the SonicWall. We also have a few clients who have Allworx setups, which come with a built-in VPN capability, and I can access those no problem, both from my laptop and the desktop. Both on WiFi and over an Ethernet connection, no problem. It is also set up to connect to their VPNs. First, I have a work laptop (as I spend a good amount of my work days out in the field, doing on-site work for our clients).
Every time I try to log in to the VPN, I get an "operation timed out" error.Ī few more details that might help narrow down what's going on. However, I cannot get in on my PC at home. However, since they use SonicWall, we have to use the SonicWall Mobile Connect application as the VPN client on our end. This has been in place for almost as long as they've been our client (~2 years), and it's usually a non-issue, so long as our credentials are correct. We've set up VPNs to access the IPPBXs they have at their various sites, so we can offer better remote support. Not our choice, but one we can live with. One of our larger clients has all of their networking behind SonicWall firewalls. Part of a small VoIP system installer company, and we all realized that we didn't really need to be in the office, as everything we do is accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection. I have recently started doing a large amount of work from home. If this is the wrong place for this, let me know. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I know you all know your shit, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
